Jandira Silva Album Launch @ 606 Club
Launch night for Jandira Silva’s first album under her own name. Born in Rio de Janeiro, grown up in Espirito Santo and hugely popular in Portugal before moving to London five years ago, Jandira is a Brazilian singer that we more than lucky to have here in London.
Her new album includes samba, baiao, a good dose of jazz and a mixture of covers and originals, proving she is not content simply singing other people’s material. Jandira will be joined by a terrific Brazilian band that features the wonderful pianist John Crawford and the great Uruguayan guitarist Guille Hill. For this event she will be performing a mix of classic Brazilian songs with some of her own excellent originals. Expect plenty of fun and some Surprise Guests. One of Europe’s leading exponents of classic Brazilian Music. Highly recommended.

One of London’s hidden musical treasures, Brazilian singer, Jandira Silva, is set to release her superb debut album, Festa De Um Sonho Bom!, at the 606 Jazz Club on April 16th. A passionate exponent of her country’s rhythmic, beautiful music, Silva draws on the classic sounds of ‘MPB’ (Música Popular Brasileira) as well as her love of jazz to create something fresh, beautiful and exciting.
Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Silva was the resident singer at Lisbon’s Casino de Estoril, as well as appearing at the local jazz clubs and on Portuguese TV. She moved to London in 2007 quickly becoming a key part of the city’s thriving Latin/Brazilian scene and her debut album, featuring seductive interpretations of Brazilian classics as well as her own enchanting originals, is set to confirm her as one of the music’s fastest rising stars.
Originally inspired by the likes of Elis Regina, Leny Andrade, Tob Jobim and Joyce, Silva was exposed to the great voices of American jazz when she moved to Europe, falling under the spell of Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Madeleine Peyroux. It is this jazz tinge that gives her soulful, enthralling music a unique edge and these very special shows feature her superb Brazilian jazz band featuring Uruguayan guitarist Guillermo Hill, pianist John Crawford, bassist Gili Lopes and drummer Marius Rodrigues. Plus at the 606 only, special guests saxophonist/flautist Giuliano Pereira and the fabulous Marcelo Andrade and Samba Recipe Project with whom Silva performs traditional Samba and Chorinho, the virtuoso popular music born in 19th century Rio, for what should be a very memorable concert!
